The CDF, Inc. was founded in 1992 with funds from a trust fund program of the Smithsonian Institution. The CDF, Inc. is an independent scientific institution and research station in the Galapagos and a sister organization to the Charles Darwin Foundation for the Galapagos Isles. Together the CDF, Inc. and Charles Darwin Foundation conduct seminars, briefings, and other public education and advocacy efforts to inform the general public about conservation issues.

CDF, Inc. is the headquarters for an international membership of more than 10,000 and raises funds from individuals and institutions to support projects in the Galapagos. The Travelers Conservation Trust has assisted the CDF, Inc. because of the many approaches they have adopted to protect the Galapagos. CDF, Inc. has provided members, scientists, professors, dignitaries, and the media, opportunities to attend events and learn more about the Galapagos Islands.

 
PROJECTS

• Land iguanas disappeared from Baltra in the 1940s due to the impact of human activity and the presence of introduced species. On June 12, 2003 64 iguanas were transferred from the Breeding Center of the GNP and the CDF in Puerto Ayora (Santa Cruz) to Baltra.
• Outreach events in 2002 were held in Boston, Washington, D.C., and the Northern Virginia area.
